Mark Anthony Gucciardi was born April 14, 1970 in Gloucester, Massachusetts and at age five, his family moved to his current location of Charlotte, North Carolina.
As a child, his love for drawing often created problems for him throughout school but, he managed his way and obtained a High School Diploma, which helped him gain a position as a picture framer for Coffey & Thompson - Fine Art Gallery and Framing in Charlotte. It was there, he was introduced to the works of North Carolina artist, Ben Long and Minnesota artist, Charles Kapsner. For Mark, these artists demonstrated a level of craftsmanship that would inspire him to pursue a career as an Painter.
In 1997, with continued exposure and inspiration drawn from Long and Kapsner’s work, Mark decided to pursue extensive training in fine art and moved to Florence, Italy. He attended The Florence Academy of Art from 1998 to 2002, which focuses on the training of the Professional Realist Painter and Sculptor.
During the last two years, while attending the academy, Mark became an assistant drawing instructor for the drawing and sculpture programs. Additionally, he taught figure, landscape, and portrait painting during the academy's summer session workshops.
Other academies, in which Mark taught, include The Florence Design Academy and the Scuola Internazionale di Comics, both located in Florence, Italy.
In 2012, he returned to the United States, where he currently paints in and out of his studio located at Coffey & Thompson - Fine Art Gallery and Framing of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Works include still lifes, landscapes, nudes, commissioned portraits, and copies of Old Master Paintings. His paintings and drawings are found among private collections in Europe, Asia and North America.
